The Himalayan
Kingdom of Nepal cannot be described in just
a few
|
|
words. A popular destination of hundreds and thousands
of people from around the world every year, it has
a different significance to everyone.
The Kingdom of Nepal offers an incomparable blend
of high mountains and rich cultures. Nepal embraces
the Central Himalaya including eight of the worlds
10 highest peaks, rushing rivers and rolling terraced
hills; lush, steamy tropics and high altitude plains.
Nepal's unique blend of Hinduism and Buddhism is endlessly
fascinating, as is its rich ethnic mosaic of diverse
people. There are few places as strange and beautiful,
and few people as friendly as people in Nepal.

KATHMANDU-LHASA
OVERLAND
Duration: 11 days
(8 days drive & sightseeing tour of Tibet, 3 days
in Kathmandu)
via Everest Base Camp: 13 days
(9 days drive & sightseeing tour of Tibet, 1 day
at Everest Base Camp, 3 dais in Kathmandu)
Kathmandu and Tibet are
names that excite the boldest spirit of adventure in
the hearts of travelers. If you wish to see these legendary
places, we have just the travel options for you. We
stay in Kathmandu for three days, trace the trans-Himalaya
trading route by car, and reach the Tibetan Plateau,
and leave you the option of making a stay at the Everest
base camp. The route from Nepal crosses over a gorge
carved out by the Sun Koshi River, continues over the
Tibetan Plateau over vast wind-swept pastures and goes
over three mountain passes at 4794, 5045, 4380 meters.
We can well picture the yak and people caravans walking
these roads 1400 years ago. The 32 meter Kumbum Stupa
with 77 rooms is the pride of Gyantse. You visit the
Tibet's capital Lhasa. The magnificent Potala Palace,
former seat of the Dalai Lamas, overlooks the city.
Its old life-style revolves round the Jhokhang Temple
and the colourful Bharkor market square. The temple,
built in the seventh century over a holy pond, is one
of the most sacred shrines in Tibet.
We also visit the Drepung Monastery, the largest in
Tibet and view a nine-meter image of the future Buddha.
You will enjoy the spectacular flight over the Himalayas
when we head back to Kathmandu.
Those going to Everest basr camp will be driving to
Rongbuk. The trail will take you to a chorten and you
will see the ruins of the Samdrupo Nunnery. Everest
base camp is beyond the hills. If you have acclimatized
by the time you reach Everest base camp you may go on
short excursions. One option is to climb the moraines
of the central Rongbuk Glacier.
