The Himalayan
Kingdom of Nepal cannot be described in just
a few
|
|
words. A popular destination of hundreds and thousands
of people from around the world every year, it has
a different significance to everyone.
The Kingdom of Nepal offers an incomparable blend
of high mountains and rich cultures. Nepal embraces
the Central Himalaya including eight of the worlds
10 highest peaks, rushing rivers and rolling terraced
hills; lush, steamy tropics and high altitude plains.
Nepal's unique blend of Hinduism and Buddhism is endlessly
fascinating, as is its rich ethnic mosaic of diverse
people. There are few places as strange and beautiful,
and few people as friendly as people in Nepal.

ANNAPURNA
ADVENTURE
Grade: Easy Plus
Duration: 11 days
(7 days Lodge trek, 4 days in Kathmandu)
This comfortable-altitude
trek is ideally suited for the first-time trekker. It
offers a spectacular introduction to trekking in Nepal.
You will be trekking in
the Annapurna area which lies north of the lakeside
city of Pokhara in central Nepal. It is dominated by
the Annapurna Himalayan range which includes Mt. Annapurna
I (8091m). Trekking here is very popular because of
its terrific mountain and village scenery.
As you leave Pokhara and wind your way up terraced hillsides
into the mountains, you will be passing through bright
Rhododendron forests and charming villages perched on
precarious ridge tops. The rhododendron is Nepal's national
flower. Mammals like the rhesus monkey, commom langur,
yellow-throated marten and the Himalayan weasel are
often encountered on the trek.
Nepal's cultural diversity unfolds before you on the
trail. You will be walking through villages of Gurungs,
Magars and Brahmins. The Gurung and Magar communities
provide most of the Gurkha soldiers who have earned
worldwide fame for their bravery. Ghandrung (1940m)
is the second-largest Gurung village in Nepal and consists
of closely-clustered, slate-roofed houses surrounded
by neatly terraced fields. You can get fantastic views
of Mt. Annapurna South and the fish-tail side of Machhapuchhre
from here.
You will also meet exotic mule trains that are reminiscent
if the ancient Tibetan trade route. From Ghorepani you
can enjoy the spectacular panorama of Dhaulagiri I (8467m,
the eighth highest mountain in the world), Nilgiri (7061m)
Annapurna I, Himchuli and other summits. Poon Hill,
offering the best peak views, is the highlight of our
trek.
